all smiles, but no one remembers our names - Sohalia - 07-05-2025 The Falling was always a dramatic sight. A series of steep cliffs were constantly buffeted by the winds surrounding Stormbreak, carved, at least in part, by the air geysers that howled like living things. Sohalia Lumaris, in her newly discovered Zhenniao shift, perched upon one of the rope bridges that spanned a sharp drop between cliffs. Having heard rumors of distressed avian wildlife out on the Falling, she'd put up flyers asking her fellow Attuned to meet her here to investigate. It still felt strange to be without Tarak; his absence was marked by a sharp pain that refused to go away. But she had a region to help, and her companion wouldn't have wanted her to mourn him so completely that she forgot how to live. So here she was, in his honor, helping the local birds to recover from the Void. She waited patiently for her fellow Attuned to arrive, hoping that they would be able to pick her out against the backdrop of the cliffs. --- This is an Attuned-only PQ (hybrids may also join so long as they are shifted) to investigate a disturbance in the avian wildlife that make the Falling home. Please post your characters arriving! 1. Sohalia 2. 3. Nova 4. Calypso RE: all smiles, but no one remembers our names - Nova - 07-05-2025 [say]"I'm happy Stormbreak is free again! Once they get the bars up and running again, we'll have to come out dancing! I bet we won't have to pay for drinks all night."[/say] She shoots Caly a wink, hoping the prospect of partying and cute guys buying them drinks might lighten some of the drama from their birthday party. Regardless, she skips them towards the cliffs, willing her bright emotions to flow through their linked hands as easily as the Attuned bond. Nova's peach and blonde hair whips in the wind as she glances around. [say]"I think this is where Soh said to meet..."[/say] Without a familiar face to latch onto, she suddenly bounces. The billowy sleeves of her oversized multi-shade pink flamingo cardigan shifts over her skin as she points at a rope bridge where a bird (Soh in disguise) perches. [say]"Wow! Look at that bird! It has so many colors!"[/say] Nova arrives with Calypso in tow! RE: all smiles, but no one remembers our names - Calypso - 07-06-2025 She’d seen Sohalia before at the party, but since then? The young attuned had zero idea what the other woman looked like in her shifts. So without anything to go off of, she’s content to be tugged along with her sister, letting out a soft laugh to hear all the plans Nova’s already planning. “[say]When was the last time y’had to pay for a drink?[/say]” She shoots her sister a beaming smile, letting it soften into a laugh as she shakes her head. As they still and glance around, Caly’s brow lifts as she takes in the area, her head tilting as her blonde curls spill over her shoulder. “[say]I wonder.[/say]” She murmurs, looking back to Nova with a wink from her amber gaze. She lets go of her sister’s hand, shifting down into her tide jaguar shift and trots a little closer toward where the vibrant bird perches, her ears perked in curiosity. Caly arrives! RE: all smiles, but no one remembers our names - Lena - 07-07-2025 Lena would be amidst the first, at the drop of a hat or a note, to go after an animal that needed assistance. That it came from Sohalia, after her latest venture and Tarak’s unfortunate parting, ensured that the moment the letter was received, the Caretaker finished her chores, took care of anything else remaining, and flew to the Falling. It wasn’t in panic or fear or apprehension – only the tiniest snippets of trepidation for the Luminary. Sighing and collecting her breath, her thoughts, she came on a flutter of silver and pink plumage, arriving and landing near Sohalia, though she didn’t recognize one of the others, and she figured she might know who the tide jaguar shift belonged to, based on trips towards Torchline. Regardless, in her bright and exultant haze, she offered her own introductions. [say]Hello! Here to help.[/say] -- Lena's here~ RE: all smiles, but no one remembers our names - Sohalia - 07-10-2025 Soh watched as her helpers approached, her day brightened by the sound of Nova 's bubbly voice carrying across the cliffs. She watched the hybrid with affection, and even went so far as to preen her chest feathers at the girl's praise as she and Calypso grew closer. Soh had to admit to some curiosity about Nova's sister - she didn't know Caly well, but obviously knew of her from Flora and Kaisel. It was hard not to make comparisons to her best friend, but Soh did her best to keep an open mind. After all, if anyone had been wronged in the whole sordid affair, she rather thought it was Caly. In any case, Chirping a bit to the group at large, Soh spoke through the Attuned bond with a voice that was perhaps a little subdued, her recent experiences to blame for any lack of enthusiasm. [say]Hello, everyone. Thanks for coming.[/say] She looked out over the cliffs. [say]Apparently some of the local birds have been acting funny, and it's up to us to figure out what's going on and what we can do to fix it. First of all, let's look around for any signs of something amiss. I encourage you all to use your shifts to your full advantage - our animal senses are often more keen than our human ones.[/say] --- Round 1! Look around for clues, using your shifts! RE: all smiles, but no one remembers our names - Nova - 07-10-2025 She lets out a little giggle, sticking her tongue out at her sister. [say]"Good point."[/say] Between the bar, the fountain in Torchline, and guys at bars, Nova's not sure she's ever paid for a drink. But then her sister is shifting and an Attuned voice that clearly isn't Soh's comes bright down the bond. She turns to spot another bird, smaller and more softly colored. Waving an excited hand, she says, [say]"Hi! I'm Nova!"[/say] Just as suddenly, Soh is calling her attention from the colorful avian Caly had been creeping towards, making her eyes go wide. Bouncing lightly on her toes, her hair curling around her cheeks with the movement and soft winds, the smile on her face bright. [say]"Oh! Soh! Your bird shift is so pretty!"[/say] Nova quiets down to hear the instructions, shifting just as they're finished. [say]Detectives Nova and Caly on the case![/say] Her sleek black tail flicks in a mock salute before she's stalking 'seriously' away to find any signs of the birds or what may be bothering them. Nova shifts into her tide jaguar and looks for any sights or scents that might be out of place. RE: all smiles, but no one remembers our names - Lena - 07-11-2025 Polite and cordial, Lena listened to the directions at hand – gentle gaze flickering this way and that over the particulars. Her range might’ve been designated solely to the Celestine, but she was always fully intent on aiding and assisting anything else with animals – especially here, within Stormbreak, now back at home. [say]On it[/say], and she gave a little bird wink before hastening her flight. Catching along a warm thermal, she dove and ducked and swooped around, gracefully, having done this multitudes of times before. But the purpose wasn’t acrobatics or shenanigans, but to take in every sight, every sound, every movement and motion to see what was causing irksome behaviors. She had a few theories, but would much prefer the notions come to light before she started implementing solutions. -- [say]Lena uses her bird shift to look for anything out of the ordinary.[/say] RE: all smiles, but no one remembers our names - Calypso - 07-11-2025 Perking up immediately to hear Soh’s voice with a glance toward [say]’Course.[/say] She doesn’t know that Sohalia knows what’s been going on within her love life as of late, so blissfully unaware is she that she continues to project nothing but gilded ease as she bounds past her sister with a playful nudge to her shoulder and moves on toward her own section to look for clues, nose toward the ground trying to pick up a scent! Caly branches off from Nova to use her nose to try and find clues! RE: all smiles, but no one remembers our names - Sohalia - 07-11-2025 [say]Thanks, Nova,[/say] Soh replied, shooting a pulse of warmth down the Attuned bond to her friend. Then, with instructions given, they all scattered, taking to the skies or wandering along the cliffs, as was suitable for their shifts. Nova would find a trail of broken feathers leading to a cliff's edge, as though an injured bird had done its best to return to its nest. Calypso, breaking away from her sister, would note a few young gulls littered across the cliffs, seemingly stunned by something as yet unknown. From the air, [say]There are some birds clustered up ahead,[/say] Soh called through the bond. [say]What did you guys find?[/say] --- Round 2! We've found the following clues: - broken feathers - stunned gulls on the ground - erratically flying birds - a cluster of birds on the ground What should we investigate further? RE: all smiles, but no one remembers our names - Lena - 07-12-2025 The birds traveling erratically worried her – a cause for concern that might not have shown across her avian features, but certainly through the bond. [say]Some are flying oddly,[/say] she informed the others, continuing to watch as they spiraled around. Could it be something diseased nearby, that they’d’ fed off of? Contaminated water? Or something else, like a predator, or even potentially human related? She’d known several to become confused by manmade objects. Musing, she hovered for a moment, waiting for their next cue and offering up an idea. [say]I can try and communicate with them,[/say] if they all thought that might help. It’d have to be the right inquiries and notes though, and she wasn’t certain how much could be obtained from the confused and bewildered creatures. -- [say]Lena shares her observations and offers to speak to some if the group agrees.[/say] RE: all smiles, but no one remembers our names - Nova - 07-13-2025 Nova tracks their scents along the edge of the cliffs, occasionally glancing down at the open air below, awe filling her chest. It doesn't stop her from her duties though, a determined puff of her chest keeping her senses alert. Her eyes spot the spattering of plumage first, ears perking to catch any signs of their owners as she rounds the area, but when she spots none, she gathers a few in her mouth for evidence in The Case of the Funny Birds. Joining back up with the others, Nova sets down the feathers she'd found and flicks her tail with pride. [say]I found feathers! They're broken, so I don't know what happened to the birds.[/say] She tilts her head for a moment before Lena is making her suggestion and she's shuffling her paws at the idea. [say]Oh! Maybe you can ask what happened to the others![/say] Or why they themselves were flying so erratically. Nova brings her clues and agrees with Lena's idea! RE: all smiles, but no one remembers our names - Calypso - 07-14-2025 Caly continues her path, large pale paws gripping the stones easily as she drifts and scents some gulls on the breeze. Approaching within eyesight, she hesitates as she sees them across the cliffs, stunned and paused as if frozen, wings drooping and bodies close to the ground as if having scouted something terrible. It isn’t directed at her, as far as she knows though, so she turns and trots back to the rest of the group, offering her own portion of the investigation to the rest of them on the heels of Nova and RE: all smiles, but no one remembers our names - Sohalia - 07-15-2025 Sohalia gathered the information presented to the group: Lena's offer to speak with the birds, Nova's broken feathers, and Caly's observations of the stunned gulls along the cliffs. Humming thoughtfully, she looked out across the landscape for a moment before deciding to follow the Caretaker's lead. If anyone would know how to best proceed, it would be her. A gust of wind ruffled Soh's feathers, and she shook herself as though to right any that had been misplaced, instinctively lifting a wing and starting to arrange some of her primaries with her beak. [say]Let's see what the birds have to say first,[/say] she suggested. [say]Then we can decide on the best course of action.[/say] While Lena spoke with the birds, the rest of them could linger together or choose to explore further. [say]Let's meet back here in a few minutes,[/say] Soh added. [say]Then Lena can tell us what she's found out.[/say] --- Round 3! It's been decided that Lena will talk to the gulls. They will share with her that they recently found a new food source that they are very excited about, then offer to show her to where it is. Please let Lena post first and report back, then no post order! RE: all smiles, but no one remembers our names - Lena - 07-17-2025 Surprised by the agreement (or perhaps simply used to her voice occasionally being drowned out), Lena nodded nonetheless, putting faith in her abilities. [say]Of course. I’ll be right back.[/say] With a fluff of her feathers and soft plumage, the Caretaker was off, principled and ready. Extending her inquiries out towards several of the gulls nearby, they relented the information, causing her to pause and consider the circumstances, before extending her gratitude and hastening off once more, returning to the group. Whether or not they’d be following them next would be determined by the rest. [say]They recently found a new food source. They’re quite excited about it and offered to show me the location.[/say] Tilting her head, she looked back and forth between their humble masses, waiting to hear what they had to say, and if this was the avenue they wanted to pick. -- Lena shares the information! |
