RE: [se] a rung too high - Samuel - 10-01-2020

Sam wanted to run in panic, but his feet were frozen in place. All he could do was shake and hope it would be over soon, his hands clamped hard over his ears (perhaps it was easier that way, he could pretend that the lack of hearing was his own choice). The sudden hand on his shoulder made him flinch and look up, eyes wide and paranoid, detached from reality. He saw Remi, but recognition didn't flicker in his face at first.

Perhaps it was the stripping of his intelligence in the face of fear, but Sam's baser instincts set in quickly. He was injured and desperate for a cure now and it took barely a second for his mind to make a flimsy connection to Remi's blood being it. Really, he just wanted to drink.

[say]"I'm sorry, I--"[/say] Apology spoken in an oddly angry tone and incomplete, he rushed forward to grab Remi, bite deep into his neck, immediately sucking to draw out any blood he could. The silence made it easier, somehow, as if if he couldn't hear Remi's shock, it didn't really happen.

RE: [se] a rung too high - Remi - 10-01-2020

Remi expects movement from Sam, so as the ascended flails toward him, it isn't anything the alchemist shies away from.  He knows from experience too how sometimes Sam cowers and wants sympathetic attention during moments of crisis as well. All of which gives Sam the complete upper hand as he reaches for the alchemist, his teeth puncturing his neck, and toppling Remi onto his back.

Sam was the last person to bite Remi. If there's any symmetry or poetry in it being him again, after all this time, it's completely lost on the alchemist. He is suddenly lost to the tight pull of arousal that floods through his system, his hands immediately curling around Sam that he might pull the other man against him. Eyes closed, the world just a blur around them, Remi pants an inarticulate plea into Sam's coppery hair.

RE: [se] a rung too high - Random Event - 10-01-2020

Biting Remi brings all the expected outcomes, though Sam won't feel any better or worse when it comes to his illness.

RE: [se] a rung too high - Ronin - 10-01-2020

From agreements to go back to the Climb for more water; from seeing Sunjata healed and Nate and Sam ail further; from watching Remi rush to the Ascended’s side, Ronin stands as a quiet sentinel. He knows better than to crowd those with a fever, knows better than to focus too much on one when there’s a whole group to think about. He also knows better than to let his temper get hold of him.

And yet, as Sam lurches atop Remi, teeth sinking into his neck, the Star sees red. Sam was the last person to bite Remi, and the two already had history. Call it stress, but his usually docile nature has worn thin with this trip to the Climb and back, and he’s surging forward without thought of the consequences.

Seizing the Ascended by the scruff of the neck, there’s a good chance that he might end up injuring Remi further if Sam clamps his jaws around the alchemist more tightly. Ronin’s not thinking about that, though, and if he’s able to he’ll toss the Ascended away from his husband, jaw feathering and fists clenched. [say]”Keep your fucking teeth to yourself,”[/say] he growls, three pinpoints of starlight hovering around him, poised to launch at Sam.

RE: [se] a rung too high - Samuel - 10-01-2020

Unexpectedly, given Remi's comparative strength to his own, Sam managed to topple him backwards and found himself atop the Governor, his teeth sinking deep into vein and releasing sweet blood. He couldn't hear Remi's plea, of course, but he could feel the hands tightening on him and for a brief second, forgot where he was: the blood tasted wonderful, the sensation in his body was something other than misery and fogginess and away from his mind, his base instincts revelled in it.

It wouldn't last, though.

Letting out a angry, growling sound as Ronin bit him, Sam tried to hold on with his fangs, resulting in his teeth dragging (likely painfully) out of Remi's neck as he was tossed away. He hit the floor hard and stared up at Ronin, confused and scared. Blood dripped from his lips and down his chin, excess ripped from Remi as he was pulled spread across his jaw. Scrabbling back a couple of steps he shook his head, the good sensations of the bite swiftly leaving.

Ronin said...something. Sam didn't know what, but it was obvious he was mad. [say]"Sorry. I'm sorry, sorry, I'm sorry- I just -- I-- uh--sorry--"[/say] Sam muttered, speaking some words far too loud and some too quiet, unable to regulate his volume. Desperately he tried to get to his feet and steady himself; as soon as he succeeded he would try to run away from the gathering and to somewhere dark and quiet to hard.

RE: [se] a rung too high - Remi - 10-01-2020

Like Sam, everything is muffled and far away while they're together. Quickly though—far too quickly—Sam is suddenly gone, replaced by the staggering deprivation of chemicals and a good chunk of Remi's neck. Slowly the pain bleeds into his mind at the same time as bits of what Sam is saying does, and it's with a great effort that Remi sits up to see the ascended on the ground, his mouth covered in blood.

Though Remi's semi-erection is fighting for attention, the warm blood which spills down the Lullaby's neck takes precedence, and so he finds himself putting pressure on the wound with the palm of his hand as he hisses in pain.

[say]"R—nin"[/say] He grumbles, coughing a few times to clear his head. [say]"Don't. It's not his fault."[/say]

Remi has taken 30pts of damage from Sam.

RE: [se] a rung too high - Saiden - 10-01-2020

Thing started happening and escalating quite quickly after Saiden offered water to the redheaded chap. The cook had to dance back as Samuel bent over and started shouting. Frowning, the Hali looked at Nate and then Remi as the Governor approached.

Then the mapmaker attacked the Lullaby, and suddenly Ronin was there. Saiden smirked as Samuel got tossed aside and Remi sat up, neck bleeding rather profusely. Wisely beating a retreat, the cook went to stand by Melita.

[say]"Someone should probably do something,"[/say] he commented to no one in particular. Taking out a flask from his pocket, he took a pull from it. [say]"My money's on Ronin, for what it's worth."[/say] Whispering to the girl, he flashed her a grin and a wink.

RE: [se] a rung too high - Sunjata - 10-01-2020

The singsong trill from Nate certainly has more worry dripping through Sunjata, along with the way his husband seems to teeter. But he holds him close, at least momentarily, before Remi’s reaching Sam and Sam attacks. And then it’s a cluster fuck, Sam and Remi, Sam and Ronin, Ronin with the star bolts poised and ready. “[say]God’s damnit.[/say]” Sunjata murmurs into Nate, unwrapping himself from his husband to move toward the commotion.

Now that he doesn’t see Sam as his biggest rival from Korofi, it’s easy for him to step in front of the Ascended, facing Ronin, exhaustion seeping into him and his partial shifts displaying in a series of interlocking dark scales along his neck and arms. He hears Remi’s words, he also isn’t sure it’s enough to stop Ronin. So he places himself there, arms splayed, exhaustion wavering in his fever broken state, picking up off of Remi’s words. “[say]It’s not his fault, Ronin. It didn’t work.[/say]”

RE: [se] a rung too high - Ronin - 10-01-2020

There’s a lot going on all at once; lips are moving and the air reeks of copper, but there’s a ringing in Ronin’s ears and he hears nothing. He’s already taken a couple of steps in the sand towards Sam as he staggers and tries to flee, but the apologies are lost on the Star in lieu of the blood around the Ascended’s mouth, the red smeared across his face. Jaw feathering, he lurches forward after him when Sunjata is conveniently in the way, and of course that means the Flood receives the brunt of the blow instead.

His starbolts ignore the Arbiter, lancing through the air after Sam while Ronin tries to barge past (or through) Jata, and even in the LongHeat sun the Star feels cold. [say]”If I ever catch you, I’ll fucking kill you,”[/say] he snarls after Sam, hoping that the bolts might serve as a warning.

Ronin tries to shove Sunjata away and flings three starbolts at Sam.

RE: [se] a rung too high - Random Event - 10-01-2020

Sunjata is unable to hold his ground and is shoved - hard - by the Dark Star.

Ronin’s starbolts succeed in striking at Sam, though he is not prevented from leaving. Sam takes 46 DMG.

Remi: 270/300
Sam: 146/192

RE: [se] a rung too high - Melita - 10-01-2020

It started and remained simple for a few moments, Melita nodding in agreement with Remi, ready and able and willing whenever they needed support or assistance. Then there was Saiden, extending the same, and she was about to make a remark on what Jack had to do with it, when everything else descended into chaos.

Something she’d always known and understood.

A wave of bizarre, enigmatic calm took over her as she surveyed the scene unfolding, like dominos, like traces of bedlam, immersed it witnessing the spectacle: Nate not being healed, Sunjata mended, and then Sam.

Good gods, Sam.

It was an understandable thing, since he was ill, but the aftermath was beyond ridiculous. Comprehension could be noted from any and all parties. Ronin feared for Remi. Remi feared for Sam. Sam had no control. Sunjata attempted to cease and desist everything.

But it hadn’t mattered.

[say]“Honestly,”[/say] Melita sighed, rolling her eyes at Saiden’s comments, before pulling out her bow, tracing over a few quivers, pulling and arming herself should anything escalate as she marched out into the ruckus. Her first motions were towards her uncle, ensuring Sunjata was all right, before attempting to defuse the hopefully last remnants of the situation. [say]“Can someone make sure Sam gets home?”[/say]

RE: [se] a rung too high - Samuel - 10-01-2020

Sam was barely able to see who it was had jumped before him, surprised that anyone would; he was convinced that right now he had to look like a crazed animal, nothing that would be defended. He had only just realised it was Sunjata when he was being pushed to the side by Ronin and Sam, more scared than he was grateful (Sorry Jata lol), ran.

It was probably a good thing he didn't hear what Ronin had to say, though it did mean he wasn't prepared for the blow of his attack.

He didn't make it far before the impact of the bolts hit him in the shoulder, causing him to stumble and fall forward, his momentum still carrying him but his steps unsteady, a wordless shout coming from his lips. Not looking back he clutched his shoulder and determinedly continued on, convinced all the way to the shop that he was being followed, that he was mere seconds away from all the powers of Safrin channelled through Ronin came down on his head.

RE: [se] a rung too high - Sunjata - 10-01-2020

Ronin’s at him immediately – him coming into the crossfire, trying to stand his ground and prevent Ronin from continuing on. But it goes poorly – exhausted and weak as he is, he’s shoved aside easily, falling into the sand and watching the star bolts zing past and hit Sam. His jaw clenches and he pushes himself back up, hearing the snarl. He feels dazed, Ronin packing a serious amount of strength in comparison to what he’s used to, especially in this state. But he has to try.

So he stands again, moving to try and grab Ronin, to push him back. This time, the partial shift erupts further, wings spreading from his back to try and help keep his balance to push the Star back, a blue glow lingering in his throat. He doesn’t want to fight Ronin, but he also realizes that it had been a mistake. “[say]Leave him alone, Ronin.[/say]” Comes Sunjata’s growl. Melita’s attempts to stop him go relatively unnoticed, wings flared and on the defense in case Ronin tries to pursue, silently hoping that Melita doesn’t take it too personal.

RE: [se] a rung too high - Random Event - 10-01-2020

As Sunjata moves forward to shove the Star backward, he very nearly succeeds in knocking him into the sands, but Ronin is able to dodge the Flood.
