She managed a small smile of her own, warped slightly by sobs she was barely managing to settle. "Thank you." she said softly. It was one promise she knew she could keep and hold onto, one she would cherish in the dark times she knew lay ahead of her. The Nightingale hadn't lost him entirely. Just in part, and just for a time.
Phoebe waited until his hand dropped from her face to move. She took the corner of her shawl and wiped her face on it, drying the last of her tears. A few deep, slow breaths had her chest rise and fall evenly once more, composing herself for the other love of her life. Jude didn't need to know all this. Maybe someday he would. But not today.
She turned back to the door and stepped inside, turning to look at Harper again. "Goodbye, Harper." she said softly.
