The firecracker youth was a wall of pent-up frustration, burning along the flood of her emotions, the series of cyclical cataclysms, blurring and blistering, catering to her mercurial whims. Because Melita didn’t know yet how to help any further with the ongoing predicament, because Melita had traveled to where she had hoped to achieve something, and come back with naught, because Melita hadn’t really done anything right in ages -
She kicked a stray shell and watched it roll across the sands, a wrinkled nose betraying her dissatisfaction. Her arms laden and full with more things needed for a new house, new quarters, new god damned everything only made it worse, because she couldn’t seem to amount to anything. Her actions meant very little. For all her determination, for all her mettle, for all her grit, what had she accomplished in her promises? What had she set out to do?
The youth had found Nate – but that was all.
Fangorn grumbled something incoherent, and she kept walking, further and further up the path, mutinous, seditious thoughts evident in the haphazard stomping of her strides, in the irritated expression furrowing down her features, in the lingering sighs unfurling through her nose.
She would just have to keep trying, even if she unraveled herself to the very edges to do it.
