Octavius is a fancy rich kid; Koa is not. And maybe there's a chip on the younger man's shoulder, a little bit of a complex that has him grinning somewhat too eagerly for mock combat as he adjusts his grip on the end of the sword, stance wide and copper eyes intent. Yes, this is training between two Dragoons, but it's a little bit of dick-swinging, too. At least on our hero's end.

He doesn't waste time with the back and forth, opting to lunge forward immediately, trying to throw his foe off balance. And it works: he's able to quickly land a blow upon his opponent, sword connecting with a soft but significant thwump. "I hope you packed some bruise balm," Koa quips as he jumps back into a defensive posture, bright eyes glittering with youthful enthusiasm. "Your ego may need it, after this."
Octavius may have more experience with a sword, but Koa is strong, and a fighter through and through, used to the close combat of boxing and endowed with a scrappy cockiness that has gotten him this far.
