Melita
Eating fire is your ambition
to swallow the flame down
Permitted the slightest bit of mischief, the youth takes hold of Ronin’s consent with a light, airy touch at first, and then plunged forth. She’d never been into the clouds, though she’d often dreamed of it – silly, capricious, whimsical delights when the world didn’t seem so damned and unrelenting, ruthless and condemning. This wasn’t like her slumber apparitions at all, and she giggled lightly, fingers stroking over the cloud until she was content and satisfied with the dulcet, soft fibers.

“Ominous…and weird. Like a place of worship.” But dark, cold. For the fire god, the aforementioned Tanau? She’d once discussed the probability of the fire god before with her uncle – and they’d pondered over stereotypical personalities, an emblem of flames, a tale of temperamental probabilities, aligning with everything they’d ever known about infernos. But Melita had heard nothing else about this deity, and so she shrugged it away, continuing to walk along to their destination.

The springs sounded far more ideal anyway. “Relaxing. Who has time to relax?” The girl laughed, but meant it. Not with everything else going on. Not with Nate sick. Not with Sunjata on the mend, but not permanently healed. “I’ll go look there though. Try to help.” Because that seemed to be all she could do – looking down, hiding the wrinkle in her nose, the sudden furrowing of her brows.

Damned and doomed to stretch deeper and further, little rivulets of irritation sparking, sizzling, fumbling through her soul. Not towards Remi and Ronin or their travels, she couldn’t blame them, honestly – she’d been doing the same thing, branching out towards the sea every other season. It was that Sunjata was being considered for the role. It was that she’d once again been placed out of the loop, not told, not informed, by her uncle. She thought about crossing her arms in a petulant mettle, a grind to her jaw as she contemplated how best to serve her displeasure again. Maybe it was just that she’d been forgotten.

Maybe it said she wasn’t important.

“Do you know where you’re going to go?” An abrupt subject change, as if that would make do, while she stared at the sand, bare toes kicking at another tiny shell, at the grumbling warning in Fangorn’s undulations.
to be lit up from within, vein by vein
to be the sun
