Cordelia

Victory is short lived. Very short lived. Things go from good, to bad, to worse in a span of a few seconds. She barely has time to register the splintering of the wood before it's cracking and she's tumbling into the sand below.

Fuck.

Cordelia isn't one to be afraid. Not often, but she can't say that she's ever been staring down a Landshark that has every intention of eating her whole either. Quickly shifting into the form of her fox, the Attuned darts to the side, making her way to the nearest platform before attempting to climb it and get out of harms way.

Cordelia shifts, evades, and attempts to climb!

Sah

As Sah channeled his lightning, the shark must have given one hell of a bite. Because just as he lets his magic loose, the platform jerks and he stumbles slightly. And although he doesn't fall over, his lightning misses its mark. Horribly. "Fuck!"

There's a moment of incredulity as Tal tries to jump onto shark two, and Sah says fuck it. As shark one comes his way, uses his telekinesis to keep whatever among of the platform under his feet as he can. At the same time, he channels his lignting into his fist and gears up to punch the shark in the face once it rears its head.

DEIMOS
Heave the silver hollow sliver
It was with a great consternation, frustration, and apprehension that Deimos watched the haphazard display; friends moving right into the line of fire, platforms cracking, and the notions of ridiculousness rallying around perhaps the luckiest people he’d ever seen.

There would be pending lectures for Talyson and Sah both, once they were out of the desert and back in the safety of Halo. The Sword ground his teeth as he bore witness to the courier jumping onto a damned landshark, and then subsequently missing the creature entirely with his ax. Leaving him with ample room to become the beast’s next chewtoy.

The advisor, on the other hand, was successful in his attempts, which were altogether stupefying to survey, as he punched the massive cretin barging his way, and somehow managed to live. To evade. It would’ve been a sight to behold if the General hadn’t been so exasperated or concerned. However, he wouldn’t be capable of floating along those wooden beams and boards forever, still managing to float precariously close to the predators.

Bless Cordelia, who managed to utilize skills and her mind, shifting into the fox, and climbing by nail and talon, towards the top of Talyson’s, otherwise empty, platform.

Having seen quite enough of this display, a low rumble, a rapacious growl echoed from his throat. Any Attuned nearby, or subsequent animals, would likely be able to feel the clamor of trepidation and fury, an unsettling combination rallying all the way through his lungs. “Get up here, now,” directed to Talyson and Sah, but mostly to the latter, as he intended to pluck the idiotic courier out of the dust and sand by Mastered Air, permitting him an opportunity to grab hold of the monolith’s platform.

Meanwhile, the sharks remained – Shark Two somehow miraculously intact, and Shark One’s behemoth stature rampaging towards Sah.

--

Talyson missed Shark Two and has been yoinked by Deimos’ Mastered Air, out of the shark’s range.

Sah somehow clambered a floating platform together under his feet, and punched Shark One in the face. Shark One is coming towards him.

Cordelia has successfully gone to Talyson’s platform in her fox shift.

Sah

Sah feels a burst of feral satisfaction as his fist sunk into the shark's face. Sometimes it just felt nice to punch something, alright? Especially with lightning. The grin on his face lessens slightly at Deimos' tone, a slight shiver down his spine accompanying it.

Seeing the massive shark regroup and come towards him, Sah heeds the Sword's words. Eyes locking onto the nearest platform, the Abandoned activates his telekinesis once more. He attempts to sprint and over to it, using his telekinesis to create as functional of a path over the sand as possible using the debris from the destroyed platforms.

Uh. Oops?

So that could have gone better. But, Tal would point out later if he survived it could have gone way worse. He missed his target and that was embarrassing enough, and the landshark also missed him so... no harm, no foul? But Sah had to freaking punch the biggest shark and it looked stupidly cool and Tal scowled, determined to take his annoyance out on his wounded foe. At least he was in range now to land a proper hit; he could take a slice out of it and then retreat, he thought with manic rapidity in the heat of the moment, hearing the General's order and figuring he could obey more or less--

Except he was unceremoniously plucked from the sand on a cushion of air before he could manage to get his swing in. There was a brief yelp of protest from the courier before he found himself in range of a spar and he grabbed onto it, pulling himself the rest of the way onto Deimos's platform with a guilty look at his friend and a brief worry that the the big man was somehow reading his mind. "Thanks," he mumbled before leaning over the edge of the platform with his axe ready to smack any leathery snout that leapt into range.

Tal joins Deimos on his platform and readies an attack against any shark that comes in range.

Cordelia

Cordelia shifts back into her human form as soon as she's up on the platform, panting as she turns back towards the chaos that's going on beneath her. Both Talyson and Sah are in the thick of it and she panics, eyes darting back and forth, but Deimos is quick to yank the younger of the two out of the way. Drawing another arrow from her sheath, the Shrike takes aim again, tracking the second shark and intending to end it.

"Just fucking die.." She mutters mostly to herself as she looses the arrow, hoping that it strikes true and takes out the second shark.

DEIMOS
Heave the silver hollow sliver
We’ll leave Sah to decide which to fear more, Deimos’ impending wrath or the massive landshark following him.

And he tried, the plucky, Abandoned advisor, as platforms cobbled together and he raced along, but it lured Shark One to a frenetic pace, with its body hurling out of the depths, teeth pulling, pulling, pulling -

Breaking apart chunks of wood, and aiming its serrated teeth straight into Sah’s leg. Blood upon blood plunged and pooled, spreading out across the sand, igniting even more of a vehement haze from the predator.

The others were far luckier; Tal out of the shark’s reach, a mild slash of his ax smacking at the shark’s fin as it rose out of dunes, and Cordelia’s arrow finally striking down Shark Two, who’d been around wreaking havoc for far too long.

With Deimos’ apprehension coming to full fruition at Sah’s latest exploits, he clenched his jaw and sent down a wave of Life Drain, weakening, siphoning strength, from the beast further. And a little Mastered Air, for Sah to hopefully drag him upwards, but it wouldn’t be enough with two magics split – the Wild Thunder would have to make some critical decisions on his own.

--

Sah hasn’t made it back to the platform, allowing for Shark One to snag at the levitating wood, and bite Sah’s leg. Much blood. Very not good.

Talyson has struck Shark One with his ax.

Cordelia has hit Shark Two with an arrow and finally killed it off.

Deimos has hit Shark One with Life Drain and attempted to use Mastered Air to help support Sah, but it won’t be at his full power.

Cordelia

"Sah!" It's the only thing she can manage when she sees the largest of the sharks go after her cousin, clamping down on his leg and the wood alike, blood splattering across the creature's skin. She doesn't hesitate, notching one arrow after another after another, unleashing her fury onto the beast with a flash of righteous anger in her eyes. He's too far for her to help and if she goes down into the fray she's just as likely to get caught in the thing's jaws too.

The Shrike gets as close to the edge as she can, arm extended for Sah to reach for should his makeshift platform get close enough to her.

Sah

Sah snarled with bared teeth as the shark sunk its teeth into his leg and the Abandoned both felt and heard something snap. "Oh you little bitch..." The words are practically a growl and the Thunder raises one finger towards the shark from his current standing point. Or more specifically his barely upright on one leg point.

Channeling every drop of his magic, Sah lets his entire body be coated with lightning. "Well? Come on then." He hardly processes Cordelia calling his name, the sound of his own racing heartbeat and blood too loud in his ears. If he wasn't going to get a lecture from Deimos before, he certainly will now. But hopefully the Sword will have some mercy on him. Even if Sah wants to move to the platform, with his leg as it is, he can't.

Lightning still surging, Sah prepares himself. The second the shark appears; he'll release it outward in a spherical blast. It doesn't matter from what direction the shark comes, the Abandoned is as prepared to hit it as he can be.

~
Sah's leg is very much busted. Though if it's the tendon or bone, who knows. Regardless, he coats himself in lighting. The second the shark appears; he'll release his magic spherically outward in the hopes of catching the shark regardless of which direction it comes from.

"Sah!" A quieter yell, just a half second behind and overlapping Delia's cry as any satisfaction from his score across the shark's fin was washed away in blood.

Angry and scared as he was, Tal wasn't stupid enough to dive off the platform a second time now that the consequences of their actions had been made so painfully clear. And he wasn't quite desperate enough to throw away his only remaining weapon in a fit of rage and desperate vengeance, either.

Well... not exactly, at least.

He grabbed the coil of slender rope at his belt and looped a quick knot over the head and haft of his axe, then hefted the weapon in both hands. The balance wasn't right for throwing, but he'd had lots of practice and the weight of the weapon was far more dangerous then the lighter axes he'd used earlier. With one end of the rope looped loosely through his belt he waited for the shark to appear again before throwing the weapon with all his might - and being ready to grab the rope and yank it free (hopefully) before the shark submerged again.

Or to pull the loop of rope on his belt loose to let it go if it looked like he was proper fucked.

Tal ties his rope to his axe and readies to throw the bigger weapon at the shark when it shows itself, so he can pull the weapon back and not lose it! ... But is also ready to just let the rope go if it looks like he's about to get pulled off the platform.

DEIMOS
Heave the silver hollow sliver
Chaotic shambles and apprehensive movements were all that made up the party’s rallying cries and growls now. In between fixtures of trepidation for Sah and other emotions collected, the actions were ever more desperate, fleeting.

Cordelia’s arrow struck true once more, blinding and accurate in her haste, leaving the massive beast to snag another portion sticking out of his hide, like a pincushion. Hands moved for the Wild Thunder, but too distracted, too fixated on his own motions, he wouldn’t be close enough to be taken back upon the platform – at least, not by his own means.

And then came the advisor’s strike, molten and sparking, sizzling and snapping, in what promised to be a dazzling show and array of power –

Only to miss, a few feet away from the wounded beast.

But the courier and Sword were still there, with loosened, flying ax ropes and Life Drain parameters, stealing and sinking into flesh and marrow. Eventually, the land-roaming predator could do no more, fading, dismally, with one last rumble of the earth and demonic cry, fading into death and demise.

For an instant, the General was very still, taking a few deep breaths, glancing over the makeshift battlefield. Broken pieces of wood, teeth disassembled, and five landsharks remained, death called to each one. They’d very nearly had the same outcome.

Swallowing down a measure of ghosts and the lecture biting at his jaw, the beast immediately summoned more of his Mastered Air, snagging and dragging Sah back to the platform. Directions flew and flickered within an instant, because they still weren’t quite done and there were other notions coiled and clustered in the back of his mind (the blood – wouldn’t the blood attract more?). “We need to leave, and soon. Cordelia, can you bandage him up for now?” And he reached into his bag, tossing the Attuned a roll of the item, piercing gaze towards Tal thereafter. “Salvage what we can of the pelts and teeth. We might have to leave some here.”

--

The sharks are all dead! Huzzah!

Cordelia can bandage up Sah, Talyson and Deimos can collect what they snag of landshark items, and Sah can rest for a moment, good grief.

Sah

Sah let out a slight groan as he's pulled onto the platform. The stricken face on the others pulls a tired snort from him. "I'll live..." He has to pause to hiss through his teeth when a slight movement jostles his leg. "...don't worry. It's not lethal." If it was, the bleeding would be so much worse.

Gods he really should have followed his instincts and stayed on his crumbling platform despite Deimos' words. The Abandoned had stayed behind the first time fearing that the shark would catch him in the process of moving given its focus on him. Funny how when he did actually go for the other platform, his fear proved true.

As Sah moves to lay down on the platform, plopping his head down to stare at the worried faces above him he can't help but chuckle slightly, "I can't believe I missed that just now... I'm going to blame the blood loss if that's alright with you guys." His poor ego aches at the moment. Nearly as bad as his leg.

When Tal and Deimos move to collect the remains and Sah can't help but call out to them, "Kick it in the face for me!" Relaxing, he then lets Cordelia tend to him, letting out a tired sigh as his mind whirls. Part of him is a little confused with how worried the others seem to be. It's on his leg and nonlethal after all. It's not like the shark got his neck or stomach.

But Sah suddenly feels a surge of relief that none of them had been in Halo during the LongNight monster attack. If they were this upset over this, he has a feeling their reaction to seeing the monster bite his shoulder and very nearly his neck would have been so much worse.

The Thunder had genuinely feared for his life at that moment. Just a few more inches and the bite would have been fatal. Fuck. He's really glad none of them were there to see that.

Tal wasn't expecting Sah's lightning to miss, but he was already in motion to throw his axe and he did so with a great deal of extreme prejudice towards the toothy fucker that had bit his guildmate. Big and wicked at the beast was he didn't expect it to expire, but under the punishment of weapons and magic the landshark finally subsided.

Something the courier didn't trust right away, dragging his axe back hand-over-hand and holding it at the ready, panting, pale eyes focused entirely on the massive beast until Deimos moved into action and gave his marching orders. Only then did Tal start to ease up, daring to believe that it was over.

At least Sah was awake and alert and cracking jokes. Tal knelt down to check the laces on his boot and reached over to give the other man's shoulder a gruff squeeze and a grin that was more worried than smug. "Don't worry. I didn't," he assured the Advisor in response to his comment on missing his attack.

Then it was off the platform and down to the sand to collect what they could. He obligingly kicked the massive shark on the nose as he went past it - and tried not to wince as he possibly bruised a toe. Pragmatic to a fault, Tal just stuffed the two smallest sharks and their associated throwing axes into his Bag of Holding while Boreal spiraled down to investigate Medium. "Hold it steady," Tal called to her, and while the dragon obligingly pinned the body, he set to work with his larger axe chopping off the shark's head so they could hopefully wrestle both pieces into the Bag for taking back to Halo.

Like he'd told Deimos, an axe was tool as much as a weapon, and it certainly made for more efficient processing in a situation like this than a spear or sword.

Tal stuffs the two smallest sharks straight into his Bag of Holding and then gets to work chopping the head off Medium to cut it down to size and add it to the stash as well.

Cordelia

Cordelia snatches the bandages from the air as Deimos tosses them to her, scowling at her cousin, "I don't even have to tell you how stupid that was." She grumbles, unscrewing the top of her canteen and pouring it on the wound, rinsing away some of the blood so she can get a better look at what she's dealing with. "It's going to scar." Cordelia says, tone matter of fact, unwrapping the bandages to begin tending to his wound.

The blood begins to slow and she finally gets it secured, tying it tightly so that the blood flow finally stops, "Keep your weight off of it." The Shrike instructs, helping him up and hobbling over to the edge of the platform. "Deimos, we need to go before the smell starts to attract others."

Cordelia bandages up Sah and helps him walk.
