Sam had been anxious to follow The Voice's instruction and explore the Greatwood for a magnitude of reasons. Firstly, his normal and constant fear of anything new, of change and the unknown. Secondly, he knew the Fae were not fond of humans and especially not Ascended. And third, he was terrible with directions.
But she had asked, and he was trying his best to be a good disciple. So invisible for the majority of his journey, he wandered into the woods. He set off in the night time so he didn't have to worry about sun, a large bag of supplies that he didn't really need that much on his back. He had taken care to wrap anything that might make a noise in several layers of cloth so he wouldn't make a noise as he crept through the forest.
Eventually he began to hear the babbling sound of a river nearby, and came out by the Stonesong. It was as good a place as any to stop for the day, he supposed. Choosing a tree just off the edge of the bank, he took a blanket from his bag and hung it between two blankets, creating a little shade for himself to stay in. He still had an hour or so before daylight, so he headed to the shore and knelt down, looking at the colourful stones lapped up in the water.
In his curiosity, his invisibility faltered a little; to an observer it would look almost as if a ghost was at the bank of the river, Sam's appearance lightly translucent.
