The man and the Fae stared at each other, unmoving, as if having a conversation just between their eyes; Sam wondered if they were. But then the Fae girl (who seemed young, but he could not be sure, not understanding how the Fae aged; The Voice appeared as a child after all but was not childish) turned to him. How had she seen him? He tried to stay as still as he could, but he couldn't ignore her outright speaking to him.
Improvising in a second, he made himself slightly more visible then spoke: "I...I'm a ghost, that's why. I'm not used to seeing the living." Whether or not they'd actually believe him was another matter entirely, but it was probably better than admitting to being an Ascended in the Greatwood to a Fae.
