Are
Openings, openings all around, but which where true and which where naught but bait for over-zealous fighters, keen on ending a bout without barely starting it. There had been a point not long before that he had jumped at any and all opportunities to lovingly tap the blunted edge of his axe on an ankle left a foot too far forward, but as he'd gotten his first taste of what it meant to be wrong in that very key regard he played a safer game. A game that had him pushing his, maybe unfair, advantage of the stout shield in his left hand.

An advantage that tracked the truncheon and moved forward to impede it's imagined path before it went down it, meeting no resistance sent a little rush of excitement and the immediate reaction of following through with his movement. Turning defense into attack at a moments notice, although not as expected.

The axe came up above Are's head, but instead of bearing down with any force it disappeared in behind the shield that had been set in motion by the man hidden behind it slamming forward to deliver a mighty shove that he was sure would mean an opponent scrambling for balance, if not even one tumbling to the ground.
