Bastien is no longer a part of her mind as she looks at the destruction, remembering and imagining, and seeing it the way she had left it – only more of a ghost town with the fires long extinguished. It hurts, and there’s still those tears that linger behind her lids as she gazes at what occurred. There’s anger within her, regret for having left, but knowing somehow it wouldn’t have made a difference. This wasn’t her, she couldn’t have prevented it. The cards were long on the table before she had a chance to get to them. It was destined to happen.Her attention lingers on the ruined buildings as the Voice’s words reach her again, and she thinks for a moment of Frey and the realization they had helped her reach. There was nothing she could have done, she was to be reborn and changed. And if she ever did return to Halyven, there were likely shackles and a dungeon awaiting her. Step after step, she trudges through the mud and bodies, until she finds an opening.
Taking one last look back at Halyven, she sucks in a breath. “I am not their queen any longer.” She admits, but part of it is almost to reiterate the fact to herself. Shakily, she looks back toward the black opening and aims to step through it. “I choose to leave it all behind.”
