He approaches quickly, crossing the clinic from the door to the kitchen in a few strides thanks to his height. But the sudden approach, coupled with his tone of voice startled her, and on instinct she took a few steps back, running into the counter behind her. It wasn't like she had never been in an argument before, but it wasn't something she was naturally comfortable with. And more to the point, she was very unaccustomed to this sort of anger. Honey brown eyes stare back at him, wide and fearful. He really was scary, and she suddenly worries that perhaps he won't stick to words alone.
Her hands lifted to her chest, as if they might shield her from his wrath. "I-I'm sorry I'm...I'm not used to someone wondering where I am..." she stammered, her eyes stinging as tears rose up in them, unbidden. "I didn't mean to be out that late and...and I've been out at this time alone before and been fine I..." She was blathering on, struggling to come up with the right words. Everything she had come to appreciate about him now made her feel uneasy. His gaze, the way he could loom over her - and hearing his voice raise in particular unsettled her. "P-please don't yell..." she said, hardly above a whisper. "I'm here, I'm okay so...so please don't yell..."
