He's a feral thing, less Ronin than monster, not the man she knows and respects but a mocking, broken facsimile. Maybe that is why she breaks so easily, why she is able to let her floodgates fall. You were chosen to live among the stars, and you were allowed to come back. The rest of us have to keep caring because we're not gonna get a second chance. We barely get a first."
Is Amalia jealous of Ronin? Absolutely. Would she tell him if she thought he had any chance of remembering? No way in hell.
Swiftly she slinks and coils away, managing to rise halfway to her feet before he strikes her down again. He weighs more than her, he is more feral than her, he could crush her with ease. Amalia knows this as he flies toward her, and so she does the only way she can: by becoming smaller, sinking down, letting him have the shield while she escapes as an otter, trying to slip behind him fast enough to shift back to human form and snatch up her staff while he still struggles with the shield.
