Oh, no, no, no, no. That simply will not do. The Roses must not be planted. Something vile and obtuse bubbled up in her throat, a bile-like feeling that the very act of planting a rose would bring her to an end.

The late afternoon light makes her hair (tangled and wild as it is) glow like fire, capturing the essence of who Lily is when she isn’t blighted. Vibrant. Beautiful. Witty. Warm. All the things that are missing from her now, replaced by black blood and a blue, unhealthy tinge that screams of someone needing to be taken in and cared for. But she’s a savage thing now, a monster, a succubus, a banshee - and what Renaud is trying to do is utterly enraging. She doesn’t yell this time, not like she did with Richard (ha, ha, ha, Richard), but she does come sprinting up the slope towards him, an inhuman baring of her teeth at the forefront of her assault.

She doesn’t try to tackle him, no that would be foolish. All she has to do is get the rose, get the damned plant, and then destroy it. Rip it to shreds, pull its petals off, or stomp on its roots. The redhead leaps for the flower, hands outstretched to wreak havoc on the man’s mission.
