It seemed their luck was finally turning as they set to their chosen tasks with good intentions, and the perch began to come together. Loren might have been meeting memory snow for the first time, but he used his excellent dexterity and endurance to good effect, keeping the troublesome substance at bay. Perhaps because he was quicker on his feet, or simply closer to the ground than his ogre, but the mage was more adept at defending the patch of ground they had cleared. Twice the snow made it past the ogre’s shovel, but each time Loren quickly stepped in to recover the lost ground, and between the two of them they were able to let Deimos work in peace.
Jigano had nodded to the Sword as he gave his approval of the depth they would need for the perch’s stability. Deimos had strength enough and more for such a task, though even his mighty endurance was taxed by the hard-frozen ground that gave way only reluctantly beneath his shovel. The first hole went slowly, with a few small setbacks as rocks and buried paving stones resisted his attempts to dig down, chipping the shovel’s blade but ultimately overcome by a combination of raw power and perseverance. Thankfully for everyone (especially the hard-working Loren), the second hole went much faster, and with far fewer pauses to remove debris.
Hotaru and Jigano were becoming quite the team as they worked in companionable silence side-by-side, cutting and roughly shaping the tops of the support posts to concave dips to better secure the crossbeam. The wood was hard and healthy, difficult to shape with any finesse, but for the inelegant notches they needed they were able to wrestle the lumber to their wills. Hotaru’s strength continued to be useful in this endeavor, as in the ones before. With two of them at the task it went fast enough that when they finished Jigano began to strip the bark from the crossbeam, making it roughly smooth just as Deimos finished the post holes.
”Let’s get the crossbeam lashing into place down here, so we can lift it all in one go,” the bard decided as he surveyed what was left to do. They were getting close, and it was starting to come together – literally! He retrieved a bag he had stashed there earlier that morning, containing rope and leather bindings for securing the crossbeam to the two posts, tossing it to Deimos as he nodded toLoren. ”I can take over shoveling the memory snow away for a bit if the three of you can maneuver the sleds into position and secure the beam to the posts.”

Position the sleds so the crossbeam fits into the notches at the tops of the posts, and the bottom of the posts are lined up with the holes!
Lash the crossbeam into place with leather and rope!
Assist with either of the above tasks or help Jigano shovel!
