Huh. He's putting that mud all over that dead guy? I wonder why you'd want sentient mud all over you. I mean, I'm not dead, so I wouldn't know? Maybe I'll manage to figure it out...
Mud was piled over the corpse, covering more and more of the man's exposed skin. Cassie began to wonder if perhaps it was meant to function as a blanket of sorts, something to wrap you and warm you to carry you safely to the afterlife. But what if this custom didn't involve an afterlife? Perhaps it was about returning the body to the soil? She couldn't say why they would have chose this strange, sentient soil, but it made sense otherwise.
