Wessex still mostly travels by foot. It’s healthy, you know? Good for the false circulation and the fake heart and the general overall mental health. Anyway, she’s coming back from somewhere, from doing something undoubtedly nefarious, if one is to listen to the rumors. This is probably what causes her to enjoy Halo so much: it’s more or less devoid of people, it’s a place where she can roam free and without a care to burning up in the weak sun. And in Deepfrost, it’s a place where she’s more powerful than anyone else. That has allure.
Combined with the whispered promises of mageglass and there’s hardly any reason why she should stay in the Grounds.
But even the most intrepid explorers need a base of operations. So she’ll hold on to her Grounder’s citizenship for now. She enters the cave that shelters the portal and is almost shocked to see a pair of them standing there - one far more familiar than the other. She raises an arm in greeting but waits until she gets closer to actually say something. Teasing (kinda), she addresses Sam, “Took ya long enough.” Then turning to his companion, she offers her hand. “I’m Wessex. You’re… the newest one, right?”
She doesn’t think they’ve ever actually met.
