[PQ] In What Distant Deeps

Ingrid, bundled in many layers and with a bag of meat and matches in hand, had met them at the mouth of the cave. It was a fucking trek from the Citadel, and she showed up red-faced and out of breath, not that you could see her cheeks underneath her ski mask. (And no, she wasn't planning on robbing a bank. Probably.) On her way, she unhappily mulled over what Zariah said about the Provost and the Spire. When she finally arrived, however, and saw this stupid-looking geek-squad (Jigano, a weird-ass badger, a unicorn, and a very, very large human), she couldn't help smiling.

Once they arrived at the first fork in the cave, Jigano spoke up:
"Which way should we go?”
Ingrid was more concerned with the fact that he'd loosened up his scarf before saying it. "Put that back on right. Don't you remember what I said about freezing to death and getting eaten by L'il Ms. Lighting Mc'Queen over there?" She glanced at the others. "Food chain," she explained.

Speaking to Jigano, the two unknown men spat out opposite answers. Nice, guys... I think my odds of becoming fucking bear lunch down here just went up by 70%. Ingrid waited for the unicorn to answer, but after a few moments of silence, she realized the mare's voice probably wasn't coming. Then, she noticed the badger-blonde scratching the wall. Oh, duh.

"Why don't we just pick a wall and follow it? That way, we systematically search the whole thing, and we don't become lost, starving cave-cannibals. Plus," she turned to the badger, "you really don't want something big and dumb to think you're marking your territory down here." She knew the Attuned had some kind of magic animal bond, but would an angry cave-dweller with a peanut-sized brain really stop gnawing on a leg to talk about its feelings?
