Striving to get the militia up and running, or at least interesting, intriguing, and riveting to those who’d once been forced into the threshold – now a voluntary basis – had been a bit of a hit or miss. While Deimos’ recruitments had encompassed and ensnared several newfound members or willing compatriots, others, especially recalling, remembering, their initial meeting when he was first made General, had ensued a worrisome assemblage. Not only because of a lack of numbers, but a lack of interest in defending a kingdom. The threat of LongNight, of Zariah, or anything else lingering outside portal walls, should’ve held some sort of instigating faction into protection or fortifications. So Loren and himself had taken up preparations for LongNight (whether or not one could consider that successful likely depended on where they were and how they all survived), built up the barracks, unveiled a training grounds –
And now, they would strive to put on a show, entertainment for the masses. Much like the Fae had been enthralled in their Greatwood guardian tournament, they would hold a skirmish, a spar, a call and spur to action.
Deimos had already widened the area around the militia’s stall, lining up a perimeter within its sanction to ensure an audience viewing area, and a safe, makeshift arena for those dueling. The boundaries and borders were flanked with various décor, the kiosk unfolded with targets, with the catapult resting nearby – all serving to entice, to inveigle, to try and instigate intrigue into ramparts, into barricades, into strengthening themselves.
He strode forward, due to be a participant, but also a figure who would instigate and ensure things moved along, attempting to drum up attention and curiosity. “Welcome,” a loud, booming voice, no longer so tucked away and hidden. “The militia would like to present you with a demonstration of strength, precision, and cunning. Please take a seat, and enjoy the show.” Maybe, after the world watched, they’d be fervent, they’d be willing, to broaden their horizons too. Then the Sword stepped away, off to one side of the perimeter. When they were ready, they could begin.
