Perhaps she was a little surprised that he actually had to step back. Breathing hard under the onslaught of emotion (she really was not used to being riled like this, to feel this much) Maea just stared at him for a time, thinking. Considering. It still looked like he was laughing at her, but at least there was none of that mightier-than-thou disdain left. A small victory, but likely the only one she could hope for here.
"Good," she said after a moment of tense silence. Agreeing, to not pester him any more if he kept his doubts to himself. If this all came crumbling down her ears later, he could say 'I told you so' then. "And next time you know of or do something idiotic that affects me, just tell me. I don't care if it hurts, it's still better than wondering whether I've been a fool for trusting you.
"Any truth is better than silence or lies. Please?"
She swiped with her sleeved hands at the tears that had escaped to her cheeks, angry little jerky gestures that didn't do much good. Sniffling, and hating that she had nowhere to hide away until her face had settled, Maea turned her face away, as if it might somehow make her less visible.
But she remained. Did not try to leave again, nor repeat her threat of giving up his lessons. Or his aid. Because... well, he was right. It wouldn't help anyone if she made herself suffer.
