Flashes of memory blink like lighting through her mind, each one striking a nerve and sending electrical currents spiraling through her brain. She remembers holding Remi in her arms, Aoife clutched against his chest, and being unable to save them both. Leaving before he disappeared, his care snatched away by Loren's frantic panic, the girl finding herself lost in the crowd and so following Ronin to the temple instead. She should have gone back, should have stayed, shouldn't have been there in the first place. She should have checked on him afterwards, the first or second or third time she was here. She should have, shouldn't have, could have, couldn't have-
They are mirrors in their discomfort: Remi with his arm crossed, Amalia clutching her wrist awkwardly. She can see the scars peeking out over the top of his T-shirt, injuries she hadn't been present for but had heard about after the fact. Trying not to stare, the Shield raises her black gaze to his hard blue eyes and realizes she has never seen so much ice in his smiling face.
"I am." Awkwardly she shifts her weight, keenly aware of the shield he enchanted on her back, the bracer on her right arm. "You look..." Definitely not good, but alive feels a bit too blase or on the nose. So she trails off, chewing her lip and trying to collect her thoughts. "I'm sorry. For not coming sooner."
