She waited, waited, waited, a held breath caught in the back of her throat, in the excruciating pain lodged in her lungs, in her chest. As if she were being strangled and suffocated again, no idea what the future tremors and slumber would bring – believing she was empty, free, liberated from those torturous days. But then her quiver disappeared, and she felt vulnerable without its familiarity, without its power, nodding all the same. “Thank you,” the youth whispered, gathering Fangorn in her arms, to quell the absence pushing and pulling against her soul. The rags drifted, left, and she, somewhat bereft, clung to the belief it would be all for the better – that these moments wouldn’t grind so harshly from now.
Perhaps she was wrong. Perhaps she was right.
So she turned away from the shrine, and back out into the ether, to wait, wait, wait again.
