She doesn’t need an attuned bond to understand the holes in his heart. Though she cannot know exactly what he feels she can guess well enough. She carries the same holes in her heart. They were perhaps of different sizes, different shapes, then the ones he carried, but they were similar enough. His loss of their parents was a loss of their memories, a chance to simply know them at all. For Weaver it was a loss of more of what she had the good fortune to experience in the first place. For him, losing Erebor was perhaps to lose the closest thing to a father Korbin could have had, given how young he’d been when John had passed. For Weaver, losing Erebor was to lose her best friend and her support. It was different, but in the end, it was not so different that she could not understand.
So as he turns and stares off, she gives him time. She waits, quiet and patient (a rare thing for Weaver, but she can be when she needs to). When he finally does speak, Weaver chuckles slightly as his reluctance to like any of the outsiders. ”Or maybe you want to trust him because he might actually be trustworthy. Of all of them, I believe Loren really does care about Halo.” He’s given her plenty of reasons to believe that’s true. ”Besides, whether we like them or not, the outsiders aren’t going anywhere.”
He goes to work on the hare, which she was just going to carry back as is and deal with later, in the warmth of their home. But of course her dutiful brother never did wait to do anything that needed to be done. It might benefit him to just leave something, for a change. Still, once he starts, there’s no turning back. It’s too small an animal for her to help with, but she conjures a fire and sends it near the hare, helping to unfreeze the creature. She wouldn’t be able to hold the fire long without some wood, but it should be enough to make his job easier.
