I will always be a scholar.

Even when I am unwittingly transported across space and time, and changed deep within, my mind will always, always yearn for that specific pleasure that is derived purely from learning, from studying, from growing the hoard of knowledge.

I wasn't accelerated through the best veterinary medical schools Australia had to offer as a teenager for just any old reason, after all.

Though I had already learned so much since arriving in this world, already my mind was processing this new information at a rate probably far faster than a 'normal' person would take it in. My brain was used to being exercised, pushed to its limits, and past them, all in the pursuit of more, more knowledge, more understanding, more unravelling of the mysteries laid out before us.

So when I heard that the delightful chap Jigano was holding a lecture about a topic I had never officially studied before, I jumped at the opportunity to attend.

Yes, it meant learning a lot along the way too. Like, portals. Apparently, it was a portal that brought me here, though evidently, a wild and improperly controlled one. With appropriate guidance, I found the portal, while unsettling, relatively simple to navigate.

Now, finding the location where Jigano was holding said lecture, was another matter. I scouted for a dome, keeping mostly to myself as I navigated my way, mostly following my instincts (which I have come to rely on a lot more recently, and come to trust a lot more readily, too).

I get there, eventually. All in time for the thing to start.

I offer a smile to those I pass in the audience, and a quiet nod of greeting to Jigano, before settling myself down at a table with plenty of space for me to take notes on the simple notebook I carry with me. Idly, I look out for Isuma, hoping to see the beautiful creature once more (and bummed that I evidently missed the lecture about flora and fauna, but optimistic that there will be time yet to learn such things).

I admire Jigano. The man was young, and yet, learned, wise and embraced his role as speaker with an easy grace. I can only hope to be able to do similar one day - but first, I needed the knowledge, and so hungrily, I absorbed everything he had to say, making notes where relevant in my notebook with my simple lead pencil.
