The roar of the waves was soothing, but it fit his thoughts. He was wandering along the beach, dressed far too nicely to be enjoying the scenery, in fact, he looked like he was still working. And he had been.
The man had left his stall at the port abruptly, leaving it in the care of the young boy that he'd cared for, his son for all intents and purposes. He'd traded for a small gemstone, handing off various fabrics in exchange. The gemstone, a small diamond, reminded him of the fact that, while he had wed once, it had not been for love but for safety.
And that train of thoughts had led to the fact he had never loved anyone; not truly. Certainly, he had his flings, his old relationships, but the love had never lasted. And unlike his crew, Elias did not partake in brothels and whores.
The diamond in hand, he wandered the coast, studying it. Wondering, just what kind of stone he'd give someone that he loved. Or what love truly felt like, if it lasted.
