Despite the carefully neutral tone he employed, his eyes had tightened with grief and his jaw feathered with tension. Relaxing minutely when the Captain seemed to have no bone to pick with him, he hesitated at her question. Considering it, he finally shook his head slowly. "No." It came out more bluntly than he'd intended. "I don't think anyone could possibly be happy having to cast off all ties with their family." He took a deep breath. "But I don't regret it."
