Though it doesn't show, she can likely feel the fine tremors that sink their teeth into his body, trying to break the strong line of his stubbornly set shoulders. He can't afford to break down again, not when he has been making such good progress. Her apology can't be answered; he can't say it's okay, can't brush off that which has ingrained itself into his very being. Instead he merely drops the cookie in his hands, laying them overtop hers in some mimicry of a returned embrace. Weathering the turbulent seas together for a moment, their past forgotten.

I'm sorry." For being distant, for being emotional, he really isn't sure what he's apologizing for. Just that it feels right.
