Frowning slightly as they stumbled upon the hole in the ground, Loren did his best to see into the dark. Beside him, Astra bleated plaintively, and he glanced at her. As Kiada and Wessex began to head into the cave, he hesitated for just a moment. Then he gestured for Hotaru to head in. "I'll take the rear."
While he waited, he bent down to scoop his companion up. She wriggled for a moment before settling contentedly in his arms. Assuming Hotaru did indeed head into the cave, he would follow on her footsteps. While he waited, he tried to compel any animals he could reach inside the cavern to tell him what was ahead.
Loren tells Hotaru to go in front of him, and assuming she does, he will follow her in. He picks up Astra and compels any animals he can find in the cave to give him information about what lies ahead.
