With goodbyes given - and Jack watched the navy bird with perhaps more interest than he ought to - he turned to the crew to call for them to haul up anchor, to ready the sails, to move. And the Ark did move, slowly at first, before her main sail dropped and caught the wind, billowing out and coaxing her to the sea for the first time in far too long.
The captain gazed back at Torchline only once, blue eyes narrowed, wondering what state they would find it in when they returned. But that was a problem for when they returned, and not a day sooner. For now there was business to conduct and a sun to put to their backs. Jack turned back to his ship, to the deep blue beyond, and allowed himself to smile, to relax.
