The storm came on quickly.
Because of course it did - it was the Arclight Ocean, not a fucking paddling pool. Jack had been above deck, had seen the brooding clouds on the horizon, had adjusted their course accordingly. And for a while the storm chased them, nipping at the Ark’s sails, playfully trying to push her or drag her back. And she was fast, not yet weighed down by cargo. Not fast enough, evidently.
Rain lashed down from a sky near black with the tempest, and the waves beneath them surged and churned like a cauldron. Jack’s voice rang out loud over the crash of the sea, the captain drenched and coiled tight like a spring, but his movements were sure, his orders clear: tether down anything that might be lost, lock down anything that might fly open, and get the fucking sails down.
