"I wasn't aware it had been broken, but let me see." Bastien said gently, reaching to take the strange abomination of toy parts from his child and turning it over in his hands as if it were a treasured artefact - which it very much was. "Ah, I see, I see. You have made it better. I thought that this could do with going there myself, actually." He gave it back to them with a proud, amused smile on his face, his heart glad that Azrael had already found a creative pursuit of sorts.
And as if his pride could grow any more, they were thrilled about the prospect of making paints. Reaching to help them out of bed, he helped them dress (no one was wearing pajamas all day in this family) and they headed downstairs, stopping at the portrait of Rexanna that hung in the hall: one of his favourites, a soft moment in the morning sun, her wearing one of her characteristic golden dresses and smiling at him. Lifting Azrael up as he had done every morning since they'd arrived home, he gently said: "Say good morning to mama, Azrael."
Hopefully, wherever she was, she appreciated it.
When Rexanna had been properly greeted, they went into the studio, where Pittore lay sleeping in his favourite little sack (Bastien had offered to get him a bed, but he seemed to want to sleep in potato sacks and potato sacks alone) on the table. With a smile, Bastien looked to Azrael, some mischief in his eyes: "Do you want to wake our lazy friend up?"
