The job completed, the vet finally stopped, surprised at how tired he was - mentally and physically. He supposed he shouldn't be surprised, if he considered all angles of the situation, and yet…
He didn't feel accomplished. Didn't feel satisfied. Within him, there was nothing but that numbness, that aching, yawning abyss of utter helplessness. He was without direction, without purpose, beyond what he could do as a carpenter for a healing school or a Chief of Agriculture in a frozen landscape.
Dark curls bobbed as he nodded silently to Loren's words, his glacial gaze not leaving the frozen ground as he simply made his way back to his house, back to where the little luxere waited for him, his only tether to what he'd lost.
