blending into the darkness, & it gets harder to see
She knows, she always has known - she was his first true experience with attuning, his first testing of the bond, his first truly, honest look at what was going on. She was there, she felt it too, and shared it with him, empathised on a level he'd never experienced before. His survival, his resilience, his whole initiation to Caido had her written all over it - and though it might break him, change, him, alter him, it had also ultimately meant that he would survive this, even if he hurt along the way.
A low chuckle rumbled through his chest, letting her push him back, letting the scene settle into the easy embrace they had on those few carefree mornings they were granted together, before--
"It's delicious," he said with a playful smirk, before he even tried the steamy liquid, accepting the mug and taking a small experimental sip. His other hand lingered on the small of her back, holding her close - welcoming the weight of her in his lap, leaning against his broad chest. After the sip, he let his nose crinkle in a mockery of someone swallowing something extremely unpleasant - in truth, the coffee was fine, if a bit burnt and almost too sweet for his taste. But she had made it for him, and so he loved it regardless.
"Maybe stick to baking?" He suggested jokingly, pressing a kiss against her forehead. "Any of those cinnamon scrolls left?" He proposed instead, not wanting to move but wanting to give this dreamstate direction, reason to exist as long as possible.
