”Me neither. But I don’t like them.” Finn scrunches his nose, shuddering out a long breath and blearily trying to look at her, though she no longer looks how she should. Her head is on upside down, and it’s a bit frightening, truth be told. At least her hand is an anchor to their boat-bed. ”You... you drowned? Didn’t I save you? With my great, wide wings?” he wonders, the image of Remi dancing on the surface of the ocean burning though his mind, beckoning lost souls towards his waiting arms.
He smiles sadly, the gesture somewhat lopsided as he tries to turn his head to face her a bit more. ”I work for them,” he whispers. ”But that’s not why I wanted to know you. You are sweet. I’m not sweet. I’m a sour man.”
Closing his eyes against the wetness he feels on his cheeks, he shakes his head. ”I didn’t know,” he says, sounding for all the world like he’s swearing an oath. ”I won’t lie again.” Who treated him unkindly, though? The world unravels around him. ”You couldn’t fight them all.”
