eyes can't shine unless there's something burning bright behind
She felt the warning in his stern look as clear as if he spoke it. She pursed her lips together in acknowledgement, blinking from his intensity. Aurelia wasn't sure what to make of the silence that stretched out for several moments. She wondered if he believed her, in contrast to their previous scenario.

Well, I guess Torchline isn't so different from my city after all. She didn't get the chance to say that out loud because he had turned away. For a split second, she wondered if that was it; if that was all the clarity he was going to offer. When he beckoned her to follow him, her eyes widened in surprise.

She hesitated, letting a few feet of distance grow between them, glancing around. His words got through to her, though, and he gave her little time to think of whether or not following him was a good idea. "Damned if I do, damned if I don't," she grumbled to herself.

"Alright, ya got me," she sighed, moving across the wooden planks so that she wasn't too far behind him. Clearing her throat, she made sure to place a comfortable distance between them.

She looked up at the side of his angular face and answered with a wave of her hand, "Yes. It's Aurelia," though she moved on quickly from the pleasantries. She was hugging herself as she walked. Bitter frustration was spreading through her, burning beneath her skin. It darkened her tone, "I'm no damsel in distress, either. I can put up a proper fight... just not against shit I can't see. If the 'voice' does this so often, you'd think it would do us 'outlanders' the pleasure of wiping our fucking memories. What even is that supposed to mean? A 'voice' is not powerful enough to do something like that without having someone behind it. Do your people have problems with magic-users here too?" She was trying not to go too heavy on the questions. Still, the prospect of that being the case piqued her interest. If it is, I could offer my skills up in exchange for help from these 'inlanders' - or whatever they're called.
