Oh, empty my heart
As day slowly faded into afternoon and a light veil of heat haze wrapped over the sky to dilute the piercing blue, Seren found her way into the Plaza. Her bare feet ached from walking far and long over stone streets and it was with a sigh of relief she found a bench and sank down to sit. There was much to see, even from this spot. The milling crowd was colorful and filled with a pulsing kind of energy that only cities contained. Men, women and children were all going this way and that on their own business, laughing and talking, playing or arguing. But it seemed the square lived up to its name, becase while some of the contentions sounded heated, no one raised a hand to another and even the youngest children behaved. Curious. She wondered what this plaza might have seen in the past to earn its name.
More troubling than the sore feet was the gnawing of her stomach. Up until now the girl had been too occupied with sightseeing to see to such mundane matters as food or shelter, but as the day progressed she started to become aware of the need for them. Once the sun set she would need a place to stay, or be left outdoors while everyone else went home. Though, come to think on it, she had never tried sleeping on a park bench before. It might be an interesting experience?
Pleasant odors of warm food came drifting from the nearby inns, and Seren's stomach gave up a loud roar of a gurgle in response. Blushing she looked around, sincerely hoping that no one had been close enough to hear that.
