He doesn’t find it, not through the hiccuped laughter and subsequent words. His hand is squeezed, the agreement made that it would be theirs, entirely, wholly, theirs.
He moves to stand and doesn’t succeed, spying a shock of blonde hair through the dark, stilling as if he’s seen a ghost — heart pounding and brows furrowing. It isn’t until Nate sees it too that he finally becomes unstuck, Nate clamoring up him to stand while Sunjata remembers he can breathe, before he’s getting pulled up next, any thoughts of an apology or a playful ‘hey’ disappearing on his tongue.
