But it was familiar, habitual, comfortable too – no need to slip into the dog’s mentality when the fragments were pieced together here. Paws settled, strides began, head lifted to the wind, a snicker cast through bonds and contortions, a ripple of movement beneath moonlight, dusk, and shadow. There are deer nearby.
