Ronin feels the empathy and the affection, but his own feelings are carefully guarded in return. It isn't necessarily about Amalia - the Star is guarded to everyone right now, because it's safer that way. He's still getting to grips with Stormbreak and deciding how he feels about the whole place and his part in it. Mainly, each day revolves around tiring himself out enough that sleep comes straight away - and the Shield is doing a great job at that right now.
