So curiosity was all it is. He doesn’t believe her, but he doesn’t want to. He doesn’t want to know the answer. So he scours through the pages, clears his throat and lets the conversation lie where it is. And when he thinks he’s gotten enough information that may help Nate and the rest of them, he gathers his notes and the books, meandering through the rows to put them back.
Before he goes, however, he pops his head around the corner back toward Mabel. “Well, have a good night Mabel.” He offers her quietly, dipping her head to her before slipping through the doors of the Atheneum out into the dark of night again. The trek to the bar shouldn’t be long, and deep down he hopes Nate is awaiting his return.
