Better to get everything he can put. ”But there’s still a chance I don’t come back.” He tries to let it drop from his lips simply, plainly, not more obtrusive than some musing about the weather, but it doesn’t land gracefully, helped not at all by the way his voice strains. Automatically, his hands start moving again, wrapping the twine without him looking.
