Nate tries to not let it discourage him though, tries to stay sharp and focused and moving, above all else. Adam is invisible, between him and Kiada, and while Nate still feels better than his fellow advocate, that doesn’t mean he’s great. There’s a dozen alarm bells going off in his head, systems screaming their protest, not to mention the stress of paranoia at every sound around them.
He’s ready to run, if need be, but he doesn’t want to draw too much to them. For now, it’s a silent, tense walk to the spire, and the safety of Torchline beyond.
