The glare stopped her in her tracks and she hesitated. He wasn't that much bigger than her. Just taller, but it still gave her pause. His icy demeanor not something she was used to dealing with. People normally liked her. Even when they didn't know her. She was good with people. Except something about the way this guy carried himself didn't feel normal. Even if he was. No, he glared and bared teeth like he was feral. Maybe he was. Either way, Maeve was a hundred times more wary of him than she was when he initially appeared.
She chewed on her bottom lip, standing there on a rock in the middle of the stream while he yanked off his shoes and continued to glare. Only when he shook his head did she speak again. "Are you sure? I mean... You probably shouldn't walk through here barefoot. That can't be safe." Maeve called out, eyes trained on him as he continued to stay silent. She was so caught up in him that she didn't notice the vines that had caused him his own misfortune coming down to do the same for her. One snaked through the water, finding its way to her ankle and wrapping around it before tugging sharply.
This time it wasn't just a yelp that left her, but a frightened scream as she went falling backwards into the water. The stream wasn't exactly deep, but her head did go under, colliding sharply with a rock. She sat up, gasping as water ran down her face, hair completely drenched and a nice bloom of blood sprouting from her temple.
