Even now, Nate can’t understand what it was they’d done to trick Hotaru into carving out a place in her heart, but he’s glad for it. Glad that despite everything, despite the terrors and grief, he’s not alone.

A soft groan leaves Nate, all painful bliss and satisfaction, the feeling burning away all the shadows that have crept into his mind, replacing them with this blissful simplicity.
