Because for his first Ascended bite, he feels absolutely nothing - no pain, no eurphoria, and it's over in a mere few moments. Still, he knows he can't say the same about Nate, and as Jack presses his lips to the punctures still bleeding on his wrist, he merely regards the other man with quiet comprehension.
"And now you know," he murmurs. "And now, if you want to, you can know exactly what the rest of Torchline thinks when you walk by."
