"I... I don't know." Pet says quietly, fiercely, his gaze finally gaining some sparkle of emotion. It's not a good emotion, not even close, but it's better than that bitter emptiness from earlier. "They don't... I won't be made to do anything. And if they... if hedoes, then... I don't have to." He could choose something else, couldn't he? Could say no, maybe.
His brows pinch tighter, jaw closing so tightly his teeth groan against each other, and he looks off to the side again. The last thing Pet wants to do is admit the truth in Adam's words, but he can't deny it either. "I.... don't want to leave. I d-don't... don't want to be upset. I... I thought...." But what had he thought? How does he put words to what he's feeling, when it's all so new, so fresh and painful. His jaw trembles just a little as he swallows, wishing that there was some relief for the roiling, twisting feeling in his gut.
