She no longer has Atlas’ eyes and ears to tell her when he comes, but she senses him all the same, though the awareness comes with that ache of reminder of all that she has lost. Turning, she manages a tiny smile for him even if nothing about their situation warrants it. A silent thing, a translation. That she does not hold anything against him, and hopes he will not against her. One hand comes to grasp the pail he offers, and she feels unmoored as he walks past her, no touchstone of contact to help her breathe. It doesn’t stop her from following behind, a shrinking violet in his mighty shadow.
