The sun drooped low in the sky as Rin walked through the roads of Haulani, the brilliantly painted city built to watch over Ahi Coast. As one of many longheat days drew to an end, the temperature only dimmed slightly in the growing evening shadows. The cobbled path beneath her bare feet still felt hot to the touch and the men and women who milled about still had on their daytime attire, something very common for a city whose operations extended well into the dead of night.

In the hours to come, Rin would sit and watch the stars as they matured in the coming nighttime and maybe even talk to them because, after all, she didn't have very many people to talk to besides them. Though she was alone, she wasn't necessarily lonely and if she was lonely, she didn't have much time to dwell on it anyway, so did it matter? She didn't think so.

Rin only walked a few more minutes before sitting down against the wall of one of many random shops she couldn't afford to buy anything from, her legs tucked beneath her in a criss-cross. This part of Haulani was less crowded, but she still watched the seldom passerby with curiosity.

She was unsure of how she got here, not physically against this wall watching the stars unveil themselves, but rather in a more metaphorical sense that took into account status and wealth and all the other things she didn't really have any of. Were her and the passersby, in the grand scheme of things, that different? She thought they weren't, but maybe from a more fortunate or privileged perspective, their lives were worlds apart from her own. It was hard for her to recollect what her life had been like before she officially became an orphan so many years ago so she didn't really miss it. After all, how could you miss something you can't even remember? Curiosity did still bite at her thoughts from time to time: what would it be like to both own and alter parts of the world by simply rubbing two pennies together?

But she wasn't in such a rush to figure these things out, not yet anyway.
