Nate has spent the day in Haulani. Mostly glowering at things, to be honest, trying to keep his cool and think. Bleeding from one dark shadow to the next, just in case he really needs the extra edge of protection.
Nothing had come from it, nothing useful at least, and stalking home with the sun at his back really feels like the perfect end to this shitty day. He’s uncomfortable, bent in an angry hunch with fists balled up in his jacket pockets, boots kicking sand up with every step.
Quick strides pause, halfway between home and the city, a deep sigh slumping Nates shoulders as a clenched hand pulls from his pocket. He tries to shake the worst of the tension away, so he can reach in and a grab a smoke and a pack of matches without crushing either of them, lighting it in a smooth, practiced motion. Maybe he can avoid taking home some of the twist in him with this.
Maybe it’ll just get worse.
