HOTARU
She is willing to wait, but with the urgency of the letter she’d received she doubts it will be necessary. Sleep doesn’t come easy most nights, it’s not as if she would be sacrificing much by waiting into the twilight hours for Remi to arrive. The firelight washes over her skin, warming her where she sits curled in the seat of her chair as close as she dares to place it by the hearth. The door opens, startling her, and she turns over her shoulder to watch Remi enter in a swirling cloud of tiny snowflakes. Standing, her hand finds the back of the chair, sudden nerves striking her to stillness. His letter had betrayed nothing of his emotional state, and as such she is hesitant. Protective of the life inside her to all ends, even if she has no reason to distrust a man who already has children of his own.
“I pulled a chair for you, I can’t imagine the journey was easy. You didn’t have to rush,” her smile turns sardonically playful, missing the glib teasing by a mile, “the baby certainly isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.” In fact she’s scarcely showing. A small bump to be sure, only prominent because of her diminutive frame, but existing nonetheless.
